Hola!

Michelle thanks for all you´ve done, it´s too much! the only drawback is that you don´t seem to realise that we can´t do it without you we can´t do without you either, you´ve been such an asset for the department, I just can´t think or bare your departure, I keep my fingers crossed there is life in it, as Shakespeare says, and where there´s hope

hola, michelle. he mirado el texto y me parece bien todo lo que has hecho: links, etc. I totally agree with you!!

I'll post it here better:
How beautiful the photos!! All of us had fun that day and it is shown in these photos. We should repeat it next year!! Teachers, think about some novel with some colour! ahahahaah

I´ve been having a look to the Web del Departamento and it is very good for doing exercises and studying to pass the exam! A very good idea, it is incredible what you are doing, really. Thanks!

Lost for words! this is the best school in the whole world! I am really impressed. Thanks for everything. Nothing will be the same without you next year. Take lots of care

As for Students´ Webpage I´ve an idea: Could we have some thread where we, students, ask doubts, English doubts? For instance, I usually have many doubts and Carmen (or whoever teacher) isn´t always near us. And then we can forget to ask her in class. But if we had an online way to do it, every doubts would be solved... By the other hand, maybe it isn´t good for you, teachers, because your work would be more hard and increase... Because, you know, we are too heavy

Hello, María!
Well, what you are asking for is a project I'm developing at Talking People (you are welcome to use it, you teachers and students, TP is an independent place, it is my own little project, which I share with anyone who is interested) and which I offer every school I work in! The thing is that it needs some support from the School, beyond a specific Department I mean... I'll think about it, though. You see, if I host another forum, having already set up my own, it's a bit suicidal on my part... It'd be better for a School. Anyway, if the English Department is very interested in having a forum, we could try to set it up, but I'd be a bit scared, because next year I'll probably help out with the website on my new School and then I'll help out with these projects here and then I have my own, and all that is just related to the work I'd have connected to English learning! (I have more work, because I'm an activist. I'm in the Mujer Palabra project, too). But because I love these people so much, we could try, if there's interest, sure. The thing is, it'd be better as a School thing, not a Department thing... Anyway, meanwhile you are welcome to join us, TP's peacelings! We can create a forum just for you. And that would be possible, not extra work for me, and you would have your space to post questions. Have a look and tell me what you would like to have, and we can draft it. Perhaps it's a good idea to try the forum thing on Talking People before making up your minds about a forum for this School, OK? See youp! :)

Michelle, thanks so much for the wonderful present of the web and for all you´ve done for the Department! However I caan´t get over the fact that you´re leaving, after all we´ve tried and said! you do not know how much! You just cannot imagine it! Now I have a feeling of failure and it tastes sour.
IDEAS: I think what María suggests is a good idea provided it does not substitute lesson attendance, the student should not forget that going to lessons is very, very important because you become involed; the risk of what María proposes is that the students stay at home and the teacher posts the lesson on line! It would be better if the questions were posted and answered by other students, then they would be able to judge how much they know themselves.
I think that posting exercises or exams is a good idea and we could work on this line.
I think that an extract from a novel, poem, etc. and then posting the extract read out by an actor so that they can listento it could be a good idea.
We definetely have to meet in June more than once and we try and learn something from you... very difficult, though to pick up so quickly what you know.

Anónimo dijo...

It is a very good idea that we are the ones who answer the questions, but there must be some teacher who supervise, don´t you think? Because we can think we know, and then it isn´t true...

Hi there! Well, I have tons of experience in what it means to have a forum and a website as a complement to giving lessons, and I can ASSURE you none of my students have replaced coming to class with using these free on-line resources. Actually, few use the forum, though I know that comes in waves.
My dearest Carmen, I DO know how much you all worked to keep me! And I'm really touched and proud, really proud!, because I've always been a hard-worker but most people's reaction is to feel threatened (and that usually means they tend to ignore you or harm you), regardless everything, which is a shame and not very good or intelligent for the species. So for me it's been great to find colleagues who realize that my offering resources is no thread but something positive for all. But life is marked by ignorance and violence, that's why it's not as good as it could actually be! And we humans prefer to think people are bad, than to offer people the chance to live happily with us! hahahah :) Anyway, we're lucky to have the minds we have. I think it's a priviledge. Because it makes us very resourceful - we are able to do things without depending on other anybody's decisions and attitudes. As an activist and a teacher, I know that solidarity and cooperation are possible. I see in class every year, and now I've found it among you. And things done in teamwork, respecting people's individualities, offer much better results that things done on your own. Actually, all the work we've done this year here, on the Net, has been TEAMWORK and it was not necessarily part of our job, but we have done it anyway.
For me, the prize is that I learn, and that we facilitate people's learning and communication.
In June we can meet up, preferably in a coffe shop! :) and talk about how to exploit the Departament Webpage. Then we can have a few session in the computer room.
Let me tell you that I'm in charge of several websites/forums (most of them educational), and that is why I know that even if I'm not working at this adorable school, I'll be your technical support - someone who publishes your work to make it visible, to facilitate learning as managed by your (you, Department teachers) knowledge and skills, to facilitate communication, and to contribute in this way to the development of using ICTs (las TICs) in language learning.
I still think you should all use the TP Forum to check first if you manage, if you can learn to use it, and what to use it for. Then, if you find it appropriate, we can create a forum for the English Department. At my UNED course this year, they asked us to learn to design webquests, and just last night I uploaded the webquest I designed for this course, well, not exactly, I designed it for my students and for all of you, so you learn how to use on-line forums. So if you click on the link I'm adding to my name above and pasting below, if you click there, and do the webquest in your free time (you can do it in one sitting or in several days), you'll learn to use the TP Forum and by extension all the on-line forums. If you want a forum, I'll be using the same freeware that I used for the TP Forum, so you'll all know how to use it!

A little PS for a change!!! :D
The reason why I'm an independent person is not only because I DO believe that independent adults are less violent than dependent adults! (I've worked hard all my life to become an independent person, because all the teachings we get are to become the opposite!) It's also because I LOVE DOING THINGS, and I now that generally speaking people are just into complaining and gossiping about others! right? I mean, that's what we get on TV all day long and that's what people seem to be doing all day long! (At least, when I eavesdrop on trains and in corridors, hahaha, and all that, that's what I hear!) Well, instead of complaining and gossiping, I spend all that time LEARNING AND DOING THINGS WITH INTERESTING PEOPLE, which makes my life much more insteresting and constructive! In many years doing this, I have found out that interesting people can be all kinds of people, and that they are a minority because most people just want to be the same as everyone else, do things everybody does, etc! So even if I'm really sad about leaving my most adorable Department here, I can deal with it because at the same time coming to this school has given me the chance to find some very interesting colleagues, work with them and... now it's giving me the chance to work with you beyond whatever the job requirements are thanks to the fact that we can use the Internet!, cyberspace!
I'm being sent to another school because there are some fixed procedures we cannot change. It could have been different, we could have had some special procedures for our specific situation, because we had arguments to make a difference, but it was not possible.
But we haven't lost it all! We'll work together, just that it'll be on-line. And anyway, I can always visit you to give you little ad hoc courses!
Hugs to you all :)

Wow there are many comments and very good ideas too. Thanks, Michelle, for everything you´ve done, you have changed the department and if you go we are lost!! So I hope you will continue helping us as you have said very often to all of us,though if you are not here we are going to miss you terribly!

Anónimo dijo...

I think we could use talking people as you propose.

Anónimo dijo...

Great, OK! So now there's a forum ready for next year. Of course, you can start using it now, too; I use it, I check it out twice or three times a week. I use the other forums - if you click on the banner at the top of the page you get to see all the forums!
My dear people, what a strange & special year! And what a weird ending!!! It's amazing. This had never happened to me before! I'm really sad I cannot join you in Exam Month, especially because I won't be seeing the students and we teachers won't have as much time together.
By the way, in case I forget, I've got all the cards here. I suppose I'll get to see you teachers at least at the end of this month! and then I'll bring them.
And what about our sessions at the Computer Room? I was keeping some fridge magnets with the image of the Film Club for the students who are posting on that blog! And then the Film Club cards for you all! Oh my! Today I need to go to bed early! Too many emotions! Goodbyes are so sad...
Hugs

I´ve seen all this and I´m amazed, but I don´t think I can cope! There are very good ideas but the teachers need lessons specially me!
