Brilliant ideas!

After this year's hard work on the 2007-08 projects (the Contest and on our little blogs, where we have the pleasure to read your words), we wondered if we should start this thread to collect brilliant ideas of things we can do together, in case... there are any! They can be big or small, don't be shy! Ideas move the world! Happy spring!

Idea 1: A Film Club
Students volunteering: María, Natalia, Roberto, Paloma
DRAFT Blog by: EOI Goya English Department, at http://eoigoyainglesfilmclub.wordpress.com/.
Mishy Film Club: you can say things to improve it, certainly!

What a good idea. What a nice photograph. Nature is amazing, its colours..its softness... its delicacy....

Anónimo dijo...

I love seeing these flowers, they are really nice my favourite colours pink and lilac, thanks. I also think it´s a wonderful chance for us all, so let´s get down to thinking!

Anónimo dijo...

Two days ago people of 4ºA (for the moment only Natalia and me...) went to the cinema in V.O. Not only do we love reading books, of course, but also watching movies, good movies if it is possible... It is fun and we can improve our English, don´t you think? And then we can put our ideas and comments in this blog. It would be "Film Club", that is my suggestion. Moreover, it can be a good way to maintain the blog alive in summer!
Well, two days ago we watched Family Savages, starred by LAura Linney and Hoffman (I don´t remember the full name, but he won the Oscar two years ago for his role of Truman Capote). I watching the film, two actors made me remember king Lear´s story but a little changed. Laura and Hoffman are brothers and his father went ill. They moved away from their father, but their "must", as sons as they are, made them join themselves, in spite of thinking of their lives and loving their father in a completely different way... I could tell you more details, but it would be better you watch the film before. So, in these wet afternoons you alredy know what to do!

Anónimo dijo...

I completely agree with you María.
His full name is Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I keep thinking about good ideas like this of Maria's

Bye!

Anónimo dijo...

I have another idea!! I have been thinking these days what I can do this summer with my English, and someone told me to go to Irish or English Clubs, I don´t know, where someday a week everybody speaks English. I would like to go but I´m afraid I won´t do it alone. So, if someone is brave, we can go together!

Natalia dijo...

Maria,

Of course I'll go with you!
I really enjoy the idea of talking in English having a drink and making new English fellows!
I encourage all the people to join us to the "Film Club"!!
Have a nice week-end!

Anónimo dijo...

María, you´ve had a terrific idea,I´m sure most students will be interested in sharing their views on films they´ve seen in original version.
As for the idea of going to English or Irish pubs, I now that some of the students in Intermediate level have already been to some pubs near the school. They said it was a good experience, a bit embarrassing if you go on your own, but as you suggest, you can go with some friends or other classmates and
if you all stick to English you´ll surely have the opportunity to practise your English with people from different countries.

Anónimo dijo...

Absolutely delighted with the flowers, splendid. It´s these little things that enhance the quality of the blog,it makes it so appealing, charming, relaxing.
Thanks a lot.

Anónimo dijo...

Well done, María. we have to do a Film club! What a good idea.
Michelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get thinking, you are our artist.

Anónimo dijo...

Sure! you mean a third blog, or here, adding another tag?

Incidentally, while reading María's proposal, I was thinking we could start a thread here called "Films based on books", so we could mention our favorite movie versions of novels and the like.

Let's think about a blog on Films, OK. :) (Perhaps we could have students taking turns dealing with the administration panel or something!, I mean, being able to enter the blog to start the thread)

Anónimo dijo...

I THINK WE COULD HAVE BOTH. FILMS FROM BOOKS AND FILMS IN GENERAL SO THAT WE COULD HAVE POSTS OF WHAT FILMS TO SEE.

Anónimo dijo...

OK. I'll prepare a draft blog for a Film Club, as María put forward. María, if you send me your email I can try to register on that blog as a user so you can start threads on it. I don't know if I will be able to succeed doing that, because I've never done it, but we could try, and later on, decide whether we want to do that or not. I think this other blog should be administered by students and old students, in the sense that they should have access to started threads. We teachers would have access too, but if a Core Group of students, say two or three people, could drop by now and then to start up themes and check things, I think it'd be great. What do you think? (supposing I explained the idea well! - if not, wait till I have the draft, and then we try to talk it over again). gotta go!

Anónimo dijo...

Hello michelle, I haven´t understood very well what you want me to do and if I will be able to do it..., but here I give you my email: maryah16@hotmail.com

Anónimo dijo...

I think Michelle is right it would be fantastic if the students could deal with the administration of that new blog. Isn´t it going to mean a lot of work for you with your back trouble? I think the idea is brilliant, it suits us fine, but we need help from the students with the administration. Also if it is a proper blog maybe it needs a mishy, I can´t live without them they are the symbol of us and our change! What we should do, as you have often said, is a web page that had all these things. We´ll do what you think best. I love the flowers, I want to organise another play but I don´t want the flowers to go down they are so lovely and it´s nice that it´s the first thing that appears when you open the blogs. How can we make them stay at the top? Michelle, you see how we can´t live without you all these things....You just can´t go

Anónimo dijo...

Hiya there!
I can't be here long, so allow me to be brief! (Mission Impossible, but I'll try!)
1. I've already prepared the draft blog and that includes I have a logo proposal, a mishy 3! BUT
We should leave it here for the time being, and think about the idea, leave it for next year. Next year we could talk about it again, and explore the idea further, supposing-
2. We would need some specific people to be in charge of some specific tasks at the beginning. The luxury in the Theatre Club and the Reading Club is that we have teachers who go to the theater and read! that drop by and comment here! But what'll happen with the film club, as Marta points out? I can offer to post every now and then on movies and documentaries I watch on TV (digital channels, mostly), but I never leave my adorable house so... Is there anyone - teacher, student, friends - who does and is willing to post every now and then on that blog?
I'm just posing the problems we are identifying, so we can think about them, OK? It'd be a pity to start something which we cannot maintain, and we know how very hard it is to achieve what we've achieved on these two blogs. I have to say I have a forum (which, technically, is a much better place for discussions) and I haven't got as much participation as we have here, in spite of the fact that my students use my website and that the whole thing is 4 years old! So here goes all my admiration to the people populating these blogs! :D
Gotta go!

Anónimo dijo...

Sorry but I think I must be very stupid indeed. I don’t understand what you mean in these posts; surely your English is too good for my understanding it. I believe Maria’s idea is great and very easy to follow. All of us go usually to the cinema and it is not difficult to post some comments about the films. Moreover, some of us are keen of films based on books, and we can speak about them. If the problem is threads, we can propose some in our classes and the teachers can open the threads in the blog. Another possibility is just talk about films and let the whole thing to flow free, you know, something similar as we are doing with the comments in The Woman in White. This way it is more difficult to find reviews about a certain film, but it’s easier to keep the conversation and the blog alive. We can also make a test; we can start with a new section in our reading blog speaking about films based on books, and the same in the other blog: films based on plays. We can see how things develop and then, if you think it's worth it, you can create a new blog. What do you think?

Anónimo dijo...

But this is a Reading Club and the other is a Theater Club and if I understood correctly, María's proposal was a Film Club, where we could discuss the movies we went to. We've drafted a blog (María, did you get my email?). But it's just a draft.
We're thinking just now that perhaps developing this third blow would be too much for the upcoming end of course, which is always hard, and especially after such a hard year (because we had tons of extra work with the projects). So we were thinking of developing this idea, this experiment, next year. What do you all think?
As I understand it, María's idea is not incompatible with using this blog to discuss movies based on books - that's another option, a different thing.
About the blog, it's not complicated, but we DO need to secure a minimum participation, i.e. we need a few people who DO go to the cinema to watch movies in OV, eager to post every now and then on that blog, and willing to read all the posts which are published there, i.e. a few people who can take some responsibility on that because we can only take part as language teachers, not as movie-goers! Blogs need someone to look after them, like we've been doing with these two this year (apart from posting like students, I mean).
In any case, proposals are a source of happiness, and not felt like a problem! I'm sorry I gave that impression. For me exploring ideas is a pleasure, which means we can explore all kinds of things and then pick whatever suits us best!

Anónimo dijo...

Hello Michelle, Sorry for your long waiting, but my internet has been broken this weekend... I have received your mail and I´ve just answered you. Now, I don´t know what I have to do...

Anónimo dijo...

Dear Michelle, I will be glad if I can offer myself to help you with the film blog. I love films I think I could embrace that responsibility.

Natalia dijo...

Dear Michelle,

I am also volunteer to help in this new project.
Maria and I started this activity last week and I would like to feel involved in it.
My e-mail address: nataliabarc@hotmail.com

Anónimo dijo...

Wow! Well, here: our adorable department has done this little draft: click on my name, the link is there.
I just checked, and María is there as a contributor. Now I don't know what that means! So let's try to find out: María, Mission 1: could you try to post there? Mission 2: is there anywhere you can click that gives you access to some sort of Panel, some place where you can click on "Write" and then write a post? If there is, I'd have to tell you a few things, and/or have you exploring it! In any case, just tell us, can you start threads?
I'll register Natalia and Roberto, too. You'll get a message from Wordpress. Then, try to check what María will be also checking, OK? No rush! We'll do this just to test if we are able to manage, OK? (It's all a bit scary, right?!)
Then, we'd have a few options:

1. CONSIDER IT ALL NEXT YEAR & KEEP THE BLOG. After us checking things and realizing it's a bit complicated and we need to learn some stuff, we decide to leave it all for next year and meet again here next Fall (Autumn).
2. EXPLORE THE BLOG (BY USING IT)NOW. ANNOUNCE IT NEXT YEAR. We start exploring it to learn how to do it, and also to check it suits our needs and/or to improve its design (categories, mostly) but we don't make it public yet. Then next year we announce it - people will be welcome to join as people who post (not as contributors, I mean).
3. EXPLORE NOW. MAKE A DECISION AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR. We teachers know that the most adorable and enthusiastic intentions can change once the course is over ("I will love you forever" and "forever" is 'the duration of the course', hahahha :P )... Please, don't take this personal! It's just a possible scenario we need to consider...
4. ...

Anónimo dijo...

PS: Hey, Natalia, I just included you. Sorry about not doing it before. I wasn't sure you meant joining in on-line, I mean! I thought you meant in the real world! Hey, Roberto, we need your email, so send it to english AT mujerpalabra DOT net.
From our adorable Department, thanks so much for your interest and enthusiasm! :)

Anónimo dijo...

I don't know if you need my e-mail. Here it is: robertodeza@msn.com

The deign of the blog is PERFECT!!

EOIGoya_Inglés dijo...

Thanks! We just edited the opening post, so have a look.
Everything is ready for exploration. Please, don't be shy and comment whatever crosses (surfs) your mind!

Anónimo dijo...

Michelle you are a quick woman! We have said that and you have just done it!! It is incredible, you are great! OK. I have been trying to post there but I can't. It says that my "comment is awaiting moderation". I am sure I am doing something wrong, because I am not very good with Internet either... I only know how to do things if someone explains me before. Of course, I can't start threads either... Maybe Natalia or Roberto be better than me in this issue... While you say me something I will continue trying.

Natalia dijo...

Michelle,

Thank you very much for including me in the blog! Now I have to study carefully how to manage with the blog and the way to post there and create threads to comment!

Anónimo dijo...

Hi friends!

Here is my little contribution to increase this section of new ideas to maintain our blog alive during our holidays: What about art exhibitions? Sometimes, beside the work art we find a brief commentary in Spanish and in English and the brochures give us, the explanations in English too, that's why we could practise with them through the sculptures, photos or paintings improving our knowledge and vocabulary. Do you like this idea?

I can also do what you want. I'm not very good at computers but I'd like to work with you in this project. I send my e-mail:
paloma_del_alamo@hotmail.com
Please tell me what you want me to do.

Anónimo dijo...

Awaiting moderation? PERFECT! No, it's not you! Let me do something.
Great, Paloma, let me include you, too.
Roadrunner!

Anónimo dijo...

It is wonderful to have so many people with ideas and volunteering to do things, 4ths you are wonderful. And how about our genie? We say we want something and the next day there it is, with a perfect mishy too. I always say what would we do without you Michelle?????????? OUR PARTICULAR GENIE! I love the new mishy I saw it and I said perfect. So 4ths are you ready to handle that? We are ready to create the three best blogs in, shall we say Madrid, with your help. Shall we do it? And how about the rest of the students? Some first or second years would be perfect, their future is still to come. But we want to have the 4ths and 5ths because if you help you will stay with us forever. Let´s do it!

Anónimo dijo...

Dear Michelle: I have just to create the wordpress account but I must acknowledge having no idea about how to do next. On entering in the filmblog I am not sure whether if I have to post a comment as usually or doing something else.

Anónimo dijo...

What a mistake!: "I have just created". sorry

Anónimo dijo...

Hi there!
Well, Maria Luisa, your idea is great! How can we fit it into all this craziness that has been unleashed?! hahahahah... Meanwhile, let me tell you something. On Talking People there is a little forum and only about 6 people are using it, and one of those people usually tells us about art exhibitions. You are welcome to post there, if you like, and in the meantime! Because this year, with the Reading Club and the Theatre Club and now the surprising new project of the Film Club (thanks you all!) we've got a bit too much on! (though it's great!, it's exciting and beautiful!). Of course, we could start threads here on exhibitions, if you like. Then teachers need to know which, to start a thread, so feel free to tell them/us.
Roberto, I have discovered this morning that when you all adorable volunteers post on the Film Club, even though we made you "Authors" on our panel it shows that you have not posted at all, which means - I suppose - that if you post as "normal bloggers" you are doing just that, posting as visitors, not as people allowed to check out the panel. Why don't you "enter"? (I'll try to find out about that but perhaps you find out first!) And click on your nick to see if you can upload an avatar and see if you can post as an Author? I suppose you might be able to do that signing in at Wordpress.com using your nick or something... When I find out, I'll post the explanation in the "Welcome" message on the Film Club, OK?
See youp!

Anónimo dijo...

I´m amazed, I am past words. Thanks to María, Natalia, Roberto and Paloma for volunteering.
Thanks as always to Michelle withou her all our blogs would not exist.
I´ve taken a quick look. Amazing

Anónimo dijo...

Hi there, Carmen! Great. Well, we're kind of scared because it's all new. That blog is more sophisticated, but we're trying to find our way and we'll be able to explain it all soon, I suppose! (I hope!). Some discoveries:
For Paloma, if you click on my name here, you'll get to a thread that tells you what to do with the email you got from us.
For María, Natalia and Roberto, you can read that too, and the post Dakota sent just before that one (which is just below that one!).
For all, the "Pages" section on our right is like webpages, it's not posts where you can send comments. Have a look. We created three. And tell me what you want to include there. There's one for Teachers, one for Students & Company and one for Help.
Gotta go! Hugs

Yesterday I saw "On the other side" in Cines Ideal of course in the original version ( there all the films are proyected in the original language); this time the english was not the issue as it is a Germna-Turquish film ( although some english is spoken within the film for some characters). The story has an amazing screenplay which won an important film award ( Cannes?? well I don´t remember). It is the life of six people living and diying between Hamburgo and Istanbul and how their paths are crossed without even know it.The director is Fatih Akin an german-turkish man known better for his film "Contra la pared" Those big cities are also an important part of the film. When I got up in my way out tI was like in the mood of going to the nearest travel agency to buy a single fly to Istambul- of course I didn´t I can miss the big day at the English School! If you wanna go, it is on at 8 p.m every day. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Anónimo dijo...

37 comments and not yet born what can I say we must have this new blog and the new mishy how do you like it? Any suggestions? I suppose we can´t do better

Anónimo dijo...

Thank you Michelle for your help.

I have done It!, I've been able to post a thread.

Now I am trying to make my avatar to appear.

Anónimo dijo...

Today is our "film day" (cheaper, you know ;) and I haven´t had time to think of some film to see!! Any idea?????
Michelle, I´m trying to post comments, but I can´t! Oh my God!

Unknown dijo...

Ok. I have done it too!! ;)

Anónimo dijo...

He conseguido registrarme, y entrar en el nuevo blog.He escrito un comentario para sobre una película y lo he hecho picando en new post, pero se ha publicado solo y no aparece con los demás. ¿está pendiente de revisión o algo asi? Yo he marcado la categoría 2, films. Luego ha salido algo como pendiente de revisar o no se qué, la cosa es que me he vuelto a perder.

Anónimo dijo...

Still amazed.
Well done, claudia, this is the idea

Anónimo dijo...

Sí, Paloma, don't worry. You did it right and you're right, it was pending for approval, because you were not an Author, but a Contributor. But I just changed you to Author, so you won't have that problem again.
A little language note because I use US American English... In the USA, people tend to use the past simple with "just" instead of the present perfect. So "we" (I always have trouble with this! A hobo, that's me!, hahahah) say: I just finished. And in UK English people say "I've just finished".
Sorry about this, but I felt guilty I might confuse people! Now because I live in Europe, sometimes I use British English too, though I really make the effort of not mixing things, of course. I listen to US American English every day, you see, because if not, I'd just have the British version crawling all over me!!! hahahahah... I did learn it and use it when I was in the UK, because I'm like a parrot! Well, this issue is very complicated for me! :D Stop it!! :D

Anónimo dijo...

Well this is getting on that´s fine thanks for your enthusiasm and participation.

Anónimo dijo...

Please, enter our new blog and give us our opinions. We need new comments and new people who write about films. It's really important

Anónimo dijo...

My first page in the new blog has changed I can't see any longer how to do a new post, or how to edit the previous ones. How can I do it now?. Thank you Paloma.

Anónimo dijo...

Now I know how to delete a post but I can't delete my comments

Anónimo dijo...

Dear classmates, you will probably read this comment in several of the sections showed in this blog. I have done it on purpose.

Having attended to Friday’s class in the computer room, I must say something related to it. Those of you being interested in learning English language well can not miss these moments. You will never have the chance of understanding Shakespeare, Keats, Wordsworth, etc, who have made English be the most important language all around the world again. In addition, you start to appreciate Carmen’s wise and feel like keeping going till you reach her knowledge during your life.

Therefore, not only must you attend to usual classes, but also doing it on Friday’s.

Carmen, thank you sincerely.

Anónimo dijo...

Carmen congratulations on your Friday class, it must have been wonderful, and thanks to Anonimous for saying it. It is not often that people say the good things. I am amazed at the fantastic film club and all the things you have posted! I just hope it´ll be ready for D day

Anónimo dijo...

Carmen , it seems I wasen't the only one who enjoyed fridays's class. Congratulations

Anónimo dijo...

Sorry Friday.

Anónimo dijo...

The idea of using some Fridays for Computer work is absolutely brilliant!
I have another idea for future collaboration but no time to put it forward just now.
See you!

Anónimo dijo...

Well, anonimo, I´m all gratitude from the bottom of my heart!!! There are very few people who have said such a nice thing about me in all my live!!!!! which as you can see is not far from being a long one now!!! You´ve made my day and my year!
THANKS

I’ve been thinking about something important. This is a reading club but, hitherto we have spoken very little about books, I mean, in a general way. I’m sure some of us are fond of reading and able to recommend beautiful books. We can begin a section, in some way, in which we could speak about our favourite books or the ones we are reading in this moment. It might be very interesting. ¿Don’t you think?
These four days I have reading “A Little Princess” and I think it is wonderful to review most of the grammar and vocabulary we have learnt this year. I’ve read a lot of books for children, some of them very good ones: The Chronicles of Narnia, The secret Garden, Watership Down, The Canterville Ghost and many other stories from Oscar Wilde, Harry Potter, etc. They are not so easy to read, but not so difficult also, and this makes possible for you to learn the language with a little effort but without great difficulties. I know Carmen doesn’t like Harry Potter at all, but I think it is quite easy to understand and it’s a good way for the students in their first years to get used to read in English. Well I’m not a teacher, of course, but I like reading and when I manage to read a book in English, I feel very happy and self-confident.

Anónimo dijo...

The exam is coming. Maybe we could have a thread to post our doubts...

Anónimo dijo...

You can do that at the forum we have created. Check out the Webpage of the Department (if you click on our name here you'll get there too), then look for Students' Webpage (left-side, scroll down) and you'll find the link. Some people are asking about phrasal verbs already!
Cheers!

Anónimo dijo...

Paloma, you can also use the forum for that, if you like, and while a decision is made about this blog. Check the forum out and just make the proposal there. We can create a little forum for your proposal.
Cheers!
