I absolutely agree with Carmen, the logo is fantastic. Michelle, I still dont know which I like best, perhaps number 2 with the big "eoigoyaingles", anyway, as you are the "mother" you decide.

Thanks so much for your feedback, adorable colleagues! My pleasure!

I'll tell you now about the ideas underlying the design which you can see on your right.

It's meant to be book (blurred, yes, so it's mysterious, yes, so you need to look twice!), opened as if someone was reading it, but instead of getting the forehead and eyes of the person reading it, we get the words "Reading Club" and further back (it's meant to have some perspective, to give the whole logo some depth and perhaps some movement or antimonolothic impression!), and that's why they're smaller, the "eoigoyainglés" words. So the idea is that the visitor suddenly finds herself or himself looking at "us" reading, in an intimate, cozy, mysterious, beautiful private act which is later shared with our comments.

My idea now is that you take your pick, because the most important thing is that we pick the one people like most, right?, regardless my intentions!

Another possibility is that I design another logo. I actually have a few other drafts, but when I got to this one, I thought: this is it!, so that's why I uploaded it the other day. I could try to look for what Marta sees!, a type of sofa (Roman-like?, what's it called?), we could look for an armchair, if you like.

Feel free to comment, please!

I prefer number two I think the balance in that logo is nicer, I love the colours and the blurred effect, thanks Michelle what would we do without you??????????

Anónimo dijo...

michelle, I´ve just read your descripion of the logo and it is very similar to what I said to you in the e-mail I sent you!!!!! You describe it very well but one adjective has to be added: ELEGANT because it is very much so. The colours are great and the contrast between the clear part and the blurred one are responsable for the sensation of mystery and tranquility that we feel when we look at it.
My choice is definetly 5. Why? I like the different size of the two "groups": the department and the club. FANTASTIC! Congratulations again and again!
As I said in the e-mail you are quite an artist. I´m very proud of all this even though I´ve next to nothing, it´s difficult to create but not to admire!

Anónimo dijo...

Wow! Thanks so much! It's really inspiring when people appreciate your work, and double inspiring when they give you feedback, so you've got a part in this, my sweet colleagues!

Yes, Carmen, I was impressed with your email (VERY impressed, like when Marta gave me feedback on the Theater logo, remember? - How can you "get me" so well and so fast?). When I read your email, Carmen, I hadn't realized myself! I just thought of you and the blog and on the idea of something warm, intimate. And when I read your description I thought, that's it! I see Cristina's and Marta's point, too, so...

So the situation now is this: 2 points for no. 2 and 2 points for no. 5!!! Let's mark our votes (Marta's, Cristina's, Carmen's and my own) in the little poll I just created, just below the logos. Hey, people, vote, please!

I'm going to delete the rest and give us all more time, ok?

A big big hug!

EOIGoya_Inglés dijo...

PS: Sorry, some changes: I uploaded again logo no. 3, just in case.

Anónimo dijo...

I have voted the number five because of the placement of the words. Perhaps if EOI has the same color as Inglés I´d like it more. This is only my humble opinion... ;)

Anónimo dijo...

Sorry, I wanted to see if EOI had the same colour... This happens to me for writing so late and with sleeplessness...

Anónimo dijo...

Oh no, please! Don't be humble! hahahah :P It's interesting. I'll upload one with no color variation, then, to see what you all think. Whenever I get some free time, though! I'm really stressed out these days!

In no. 5 "eoigoya" is light pink, so that it doesn't call people's attention as clearly as if it were white (which is the case of the mind reading the book "Reading Club"). Then "inglés" is green. OK, I'll try putting it all in light pink and/or white.

Thanks

Anónimo dijo...

I think number 2 is the best because it´s the clearest, because it is big, so for people who don´t see well it is better.

Anónimo dijo...

I have changed my mind now I prefer number 5. I think now that it has a better balance, you can see the book more clearly and the colours are more intense, definitely number 5. It is beautiful. I have pressed on number 2 often but now my vote goes to 5

Anónimo dijo...

number 5. and as it is because it is perfect!!

Anónimo dijo...

María, thanks for giving us your opinion. You have a virtue and that is that you join in, you are one of us and thus takes part in what we propose. We are happy to have people like you as students.Oh that the rest of them took after (modal subjuntive!) you.

Anónimo dijo...

Hahahah, what an atmosphere! Magdalena, pleased to meet you!

Well, thanks so much for your comments, dear brilliant (brainy brilliant, I mean) Reading Club bloggers.

If you agree, we can leave the poll till the beginning of our holidays, just to see what happens!

Night night

Anónimo dijo...

:) I always have wanted to be a good student... hahaha
I am who has to thank you for having created this blog, which makes me think in English and practise it. I know that I commit many mistakes. But this is the reason why I am a student!
I suggest the rest of students should do (subjunctive equivalent ;)) the same, because we can learn very much. This is another way of improving our English besides the weekly classes.
Hi Magdalena!!!I think that number 5 will win... :)

Anónimo dijo...

María, well done with that subjunctive; you are starting to be in charge of what you say!
What do you think of the extract?

Anónimo dijo...

Michelle, I´m very happy that I got you that quickly! How did I? Don´t know I just looked at it and saw and felt that! I supose that if it happened in Arco I could discover a future Picasso!!!! so far I´ve discovered you...now you have to become a Picasso!!! WRITE

Anónimo dijo...

hello michelle my mother has told me that you have desinged the mishy
reading, they are beautiful.thank you for the film you lent me last year i liked it very much.

Anónimo dijo...

hello!I like the image nº 3, but.....
I see the theatre´s logo and the reading´s logo too different. In my opinion, that isn´t suitable thing.
It is nothing like the other logo(typeface, colour, form).

Anónimo dijo...

hahahah, wow! Carita colorá!!! But remember, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" :P

Hello, anónimo. I welcome feedback, so let me comment - the logos are different, yes, glad you agree on that.

The Theatre Club logo is magnificent, full of Greek balance and beauty, elegant in its balance and its beauty, powerful because although apparently simple it's original and complex. The Reading Club logo is cozy, intimate, mysterious, and elegant, ok!, hahahah... they need to be different, so that's why they're different.

Both blogs share our love to art, but the logos are meant to point at the fact that when you go to the theater, you are sharing an activity with people, you're alone but keeping people's company, and it's a symbolic social act of sharing art. It's a magnificent community thing, dealing with individual and shared emotions in a physical space which is bigger than an armchair! Then when you read, you're alone, sure, you feel accompanied in a different way, because you're at home, on your own, traveling mentally, emotionally. It's intimate. You connect with people in a different way.

Then these logos are not enterprise logos, we have no need to be recognized as "the same company", so to say. We can rove freely! Try to look inwards and outwards and see what we find, what we discover. And then, of course, we're free to pick, to change and whatever!

I believe that discovery, research, exploration requires freedom (that's why I would never earn a living as an artist - supposing I could! hahahah - , because I would lose my freedom, I prefer to earn my living as a teacher, trying to help people to learn English!). If you're not free to explore, what is it you find?

Anónimo dijo...

PS: The "Beauty is... " comment referred to Carmen's message.

Hi, Magdalena! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Anónimo dijo...

PSS: Carmen, something else I wanted to comment for all, about teachers - it's a talent to be able to see things in life, I mean, to be able to see beyond the prevailing social interpretations. And if you're a teacher and you've got that talent, that's very positive for people. In this case, I'm flattered and deeply moved that you understood (and even worded!) what I meant. Because I'm an explorer, hahahah, I don't find much of that in life, so I'm very grateful. Of course, this doesn't mean that we cannot criticize the logos and all that. It's OK, because everything can be improved, and then because the existence of something doesn't imply that something else cannot exist! I love teamwork!

Now I'm getting philosophical so I'd better stop!

:)

Anónimo dijo...

Hello! I agree whith you, but....
Freedom is possible in the Art world, but the graphic designer was given parole.
I like see the same tipeface always who I read DPTO INGLES EOI GOYA. As I see it this is better for trademark.
Don´t get me wrong? I like to practise.

Anónimo dijo...

hahah, it's ok! I understand what you mean, promise! But... I'm not a graphic designer! That's the good thing, that's what I meant. From my Land of Ignorance I can explore, like an artist! If I were a graphic designer (like you?) I'd have to stick to rules, out of fear of not being considered a professional OR, most probably, I simply wouldn't be able to "do things wrong," so I would have had to work on what you say, trying to design both logos in the same code, so to say. Well, if you folks like, we could try to change the font in this logo to the font in the Theater logo, but I changed to this one here to give it a more informal air, so... wonder if we should change the font in the Theater logo... But then, that's more difficult, really, I'd have to do it all again, I guess...

Gotta fly!

Anónimo dijo...

OK, I started a thread on the Theatre Club, to see if we should explore the possibility of having both logos using the same font. I'm not for changing the font in this logo, but we could explore changing it in the other one... ???

Anónimo dijo...

Well, I’m not well up on ‘modern art’ (I think the logo’s design could be considered like that), I can only feel if some work like o doesn’t like me.
And to interpret the intention of some author when I look his logo’s design is far of my knowledge, I wouldn’t dare to give my opinion about it… But, on this case, I can vote in favour of logo number 5, after read the people on the blog (…)

Anyway, I can see a book opening itself, and the letters “eoigoyainglés” could be following up that opening… Isn’t it?

Michelle, please, excuse my ignorance! :-)

EOIGoya_Inglés dijo...

Thanks for casting your votes. Our new logo has won with a 62% of the votes, plus the support of the English Department, of course.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Anónimo dijo...

Hi Fernando!

Well, I'm impressed! Thanks for reading about the logo, and thanks for voting, even though it seems you are not into this kind of desing! :) That's really generous!

I guess the meaning of a logo is mostly unconscious, I mean, the fact that people don't know how to explain what they see or feel doesn't mean they don't "get it". Marketing knows tons about that, doesn't it? The same happens with art, but for me the difference is that logos are much more "understandable" because they have been designed to reach "everybody" and art has not that ambition, but simply to express somebody's emotion, its author's!

Logos can be artistic, but they mostly exist to offer some kind of graphic version on some group's identity. They're like a name, really, but in a graphic version.

For me, Art is more than that, really, so I wouldn't talk about art for the case of logos! But, of course, it's flattering! :)

Have a really nice holiday, you folks! :)

For all the good teachers in the school. I think it is a good logo and it has been a good idea. Last year hasn't been a good one for me but I want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH because I have had a good time in the school and now it is fantastic to have the posibility to write and to read all the comments about many interesting things that we did and we are going to do in the best school in Madrid. Regards.
